Crossbow

Crossbow was a revolution, levelling the battle field for the lay man. It took only a short time to learn how to use the crossbow compared to the longbow that needed training for years. It could bring down a fully armoured knight only whom had the wealth to have a horse and armour. Genoese made good use of the technology and Genoese crossbowmen played a vital role in warfare throughout Europe. As mercenaries they took part in defense of Constantinople during the siege of the city in 1453.
