The Ancestor of the Written Test, Imperial Examination
The written test has been put into wide use with the English during the start of the 19th century who had a burgeoning civil bureaucracy, the empire stretching all over the globe. But the English didn't invent the written test. The masters of the written test were the Chinese who were doing it for nearly a thousand year. It was called the Imperial Examination, a civil service examination system that's been widely utilized as a major path to office during the Tang dynasty.
