Diet, Stool and Toilet Paper

Traditionally water was preferred as an anal cleansing measure in countries where a high-fiber diet was followed such as in Asian and Southern European countries. The fiber in the intestines result in a more voluminous, frequent and a sticky stool which can better be cleaned away by washing the perianal region. The populations who had a low-fiber diet historically such as the ones who follow a Western diet prefer to use toilet paper after defecation.
