Industrialization even in England didn't go unopposed. The canal owners tried to prevent the rail roads laid down, the Luddite rebellion was againist a new form of cotton processing.
The new form of economic production destabilized the politics. Knowing that the rulers of Austria during the 18th century deliberately opposed the introduction of industry in their cities fearing the amassing of people can lead to
rebellion. They also showed resistance to railroads across his country because he cautious about the mobilization of society.

It's been some importance to remind us that the industrialization in Western Europe went ahead after the
French Revolution and its child
Napoleon destroyed the feudal system. Even though in some locations it did find its way back, the
levelling of the playing field by a bloody destruction paved the way for inclusive institutions and industrialization. Maybe the only way to upheave the entrenched systems was by way of war.

In our times we saw
computer companies encroaching upon the phone industry. The marginalised Apple of Steve Jobs and Samsung, attacked the telecommunication cake and moved the old players such as Nokia aside. Before the smart phone a cell phone was meant to be Nokia. The software revolution in the Silicon Valley culminated in the destruction of mobile phone industry. It didn't stop there it also
attacked the brick and mortar shops letting you buy your desired product online. Feeding on their curiosity it gave people more ways and standardised the interaction with their social network globally via Facebook.
Softwares, the digital coding, in fact written rules of algorithyms for electricity are pressing for change in other environments too.
Automobiles now work with a second brain that corrects for the errors that may happen because of the difference between your orders and your environment. You first and foremost interact with the
computer in your car compared to the car driving 30 years ago whereas it was purely mechanical that you could actually feel the mechanics of driving a car in your joints. The robotics and the software behind it can replace the labour force now and may cause serious political destabilization as shown in the case of
Trump's victory where he won blue collar states of the rust belt due to outsourcing and automatization.

This great new age of the Internet, softwares, robotics and globalisation won't pass without political destabilization, unrest and
revolution.
Will Japan with its stable population numbers and cutting edge robots be an island os stability?
ReplyDeleteIt seems so but things can change pretty quickly as the first half of the last century shows.
