History of Objects: Antique Pharmacy and Chemical Jars
I'll just put the photos here now in advance but i have to do the research on what they are about. If anyone knows what they are they can hit me as soon as possible.
Diastase was the first enzyme ever discovered. It was extracted from a malt solution in 1833 by chemists at a French sugar factory. It breaks down starch into its building blocks, maltose. Diastase is also used in combination with PAS dye which colours glycogen in tissue specimens which is the starch of the liver.
Perethynol, now that's an interesting substance. It's the extract of dried horse heart muscle used in diagnosing syphilis. It flocculates (a loose kind of precipitation reaction) when mixed with syphilitic blood serum.
Me and my mate Kaya at the Public Health Department trying to save the antique pharmaceutical jars (2011). We seemed to ignore the contemporary hair style while diving deep into this treasure trove.
Titanium dioxide or titanium white is used as a pigment in many facets of daily life from food (including milk) to lining tennis courts.
