History of Objects: Antique Radio, Philips,1950s

Philips Radio, 1950s Source: Ahmet Abbasoğlu
I would like to start a history of the objects thread. This Philips radio used to belong to my father's aunt. Once it used to be one of the centers of  entertainment when my father was three years old and when grandmother was still pretty young.Turkish classical music would have played on the country's single channel perhaps. There would be news from time to time. Now it seems so weak when you compare it to the modern ages, the multitude of ways that we can communicate. Many people would gather around a single device like this without any moving image, and listen. Radio commentators of those old football matches were using more technical jargon to indicate where the ball was on the field and always had to tell who passes the ball to who, to help the imagination of the listeners. So much had to fall on the shoulders of a radio commentator. I believe it was a more critical duty back then.

By the way my guess is this radio belongs to 1950's but i have to do more research to find a more precise production date, or ask the owners when they listened to it.

And the other question that pops up to my mind is if this is a vacuum tube radio. If anyone of you knows the answer, i would be glad to get more information on it.
